Letter Project Reflection

In Graphic Design Class,

I was asked to do the letter project which I had to create a design that incorporates with an assigned letter. My teacher assigned me a letter M.

1. Throughout the process, I learned a lot in terms of creating an art composition, more specifically color mixing. First, I started brainstorming for ideas that start with the letter M. Then, I came up at least 15 ideas in total. As I thought about what I want to show the audience, I picked two main concepts to focus: the work of literature and film. For the film concept, the reason I chose this idea because the film roll is very flexible that it can form a letter M. I also chose the idea of incorporating a famous work of literature into a letter M which is To Kill a Mocking Bird By Harper Lee because it is one of my favorite books to read. As I consult with my peers for critiques on my ideas, I finally chose this idea to do on the final draft. My peer feedback are helpful as well as the process of creating an art composition.

2. I was inspired by the book cover of the famous work of literature: To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee. When I was pondering about how can I put my inspiration of this book, I decided to incorporate the theme of nature with the letter M. I love draw anything in nature because things that live in nature has its own beauty. For example, I drew trees and grass to represent the concept of nature. I also drew flowers as well as a blue jay bird with music notes. Finally, I decided to make the letter M as the focal point in my art composition because that is the point of having a letter project.

3. The most challenging aspect of this project is making sure that the things I'm drawing must look more realistic because I had to use multiple colors to create a realistic look. Before I did this project, I have the tendency to use one color for the object I'm drawing. So I had to try new colors and to go all the way with one that I wouldn't normally use for certain object like tree branches.

4. I am very satisfied with what I manage to produce in my project. This project is not that easy as I would have thought so it is a nice experience. Through this project, I definitely learned new things about colors itself. I never knew I can make things more realistic by using unusual colors.

5. If I can change anything about my design, I would consider challenging myself to do similar concept, nature, inside the letter M rather than outside of M. It would more interesting to see how can two drawings of the same concept be so different.

I had fun doing the Letter Project!
